@monorail It's to provide additional power to a chain of unpowered devices.
The pass-through was originally used to power a PCMCIA USB2.0 card, I just hacked the connector off and slapped on a USB-A connector so I could plug it into a USB power adapter (seemed like the easiest way to connect a 5v power adapter).
